Interactive knowledge exchanges under complex social relations: A simulation model of a developing country cluster
نویسنده
چکیده
This is a model of knowledge exchange by informal interaction among agents in a low technology cluster. The paper studies these knowledge exchanges in an environment of complex social relations. This study tests whether the small-world network structure is the most favorable for knowledge exchanges in these environments, and explores the influence of social relations and network distance on magnitude and equity of knowledge diffused. The results show that, when knowledge exchanges are undertaken in environments of complex social relations, a small-world network structure may still be the best network structure facilitating the highest performance, but it is not the best in terms of the most equitable knowledge distribution. The results also confirms that the highest and most equitable knowledge distribution is achieved when there is perfect affinity among the agents. These results contribute to the existing series of studies on efficient network structures for knowledge diffusion, and on the broader literature on the social forces shaping learning and knowledge diffusion. 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Interactive Knowledge Exchanges under Complex Social Relations a Simulation Model
This is a model of knowledge exchange by means of informal interaction among agents in low technology clusters. What this study seeks to do is to colour these exchanges by placing them in an environment of complex social relations, test whether the small-world network structure is the most favourable for knowledge exchanges in these environments, and explore the influence of social relations an...
متن کاملThe efficiency of Artificial Neural Network, Neuro-Fuzzy and Multivariate Regression models for runoff and erosion simulation using rainfall simulator
1- INTRODUCTION According to the complexity of environmental factors related to erosion and runoff, correct simulation of these variables find importance under rain intensity domain of watershed areas. Although modeling of erosion and runoff by Artificial Neural Network and Neuro-Fuzzy based on rainfall-runoff and discharge-sediment models were widely applied by researchers, scrutinizing Arti...
متن کاملSimulating socially intelligent agents in semantic virtual environments
The simulation of synthetic humans inhabiting virtual environments is a current research topic with a great number of behavioral problems to be tackled. Semantical Virtual Environments (SVEs) have recently been proposed not only to ease world modelling but also to enhance agent-object and agent-agent interaction. Thus, we propose the use of ontologies to define the world’s knowledge base and to...
متن کاملConnections, Communication and Collaboration in Healthcare’s Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...
متن کاملInherited Networks a Network Study of Two Handloom Clusters in Kerala, India
When agents use informal interaction to exchange knowledge, their production relations may develop as emergent properties of their social relations and may exhibit homophily. The Saliyar community cluster in India is an archetype of this. A preceding study by Cowan and Kamath (2012) had shown how, by a study of this community, the conceptual understanding of social embeddedness needed to be exp...
